Ugh, and I'm back to my old pet peeve - the start menu. Guess it wasn't enough that I've totally wrecked MX Linux TWICE in my attempts to get my perfect start menu.
Anyways, here it goes:
As you can see, I'm halfway there now, having used K-Menu Editor to create my own categories and sort the stuff the way I want. Surprisingly enough, it survived several restarts, updates, upgrades etc., quite unlike my previous attempts. Must have done something right then.
What remains is the order the items are listed. I can move them around in K-Menu Editor all I want, back on the desktop they look like the picture above:
- Games, Graphics, Attic, Media, Studio, Settings, System, Utilities, Garage
when I want them like this:
- Garage, Studio, Graphics, Media, Utilities, System, Settings, Games, Attic
K-Menu Editor lets me sort the applications in a category either alphabetically or 'after description' (whatever that means I haven't figured out yet), and at least the alphabetical listing takes effect both within the editor and on the desktop. But there seems to be no way to sort the categories themselves.
Is there a config file somewhere? Preferably one that can be opened and edited in kwrite or kate, as I really, truly, absolutely HATE to fiddle around with nano or some such.
And yes, I know it's all utter nonsense in the eyes of most people, but ever since my first Windows I've wanted my desktops to look MY WAY, with every single pixel exactly where I wanted it to be and no icon out of place. Probably an obsessive-compulsive disorder or something...
As always, any help and every hint would be highly appreciated.
