I used to use vss shadow copy of Windows to make backup copies of shared files, but I don't know if there is a similar service in Linux? Do you know a similar service?
AlternativeTo lets you find apps and software for Windows, Mac, Linux, iPhone, iPad, Android, Android Tablets, Web Apps, Online, Windows Tablets and more by recommending alternatives to apps you already know.
alternativeto.net
type in : vss shadow copy
That search returns:
Be aware the OS's an app will work in are listed below the apps name...also whether or not it is free etc
Free bare metal restore solution with graphical interface on a live CD. Point-and-click to backup and restore an entire computer. Bare metal disaster recovery restores all programs, documents and settings. GPL open source.
That's a windows' service, and there's nothing (exactly) like it on Linux, that said, you can use timeshift https://teejeetech.com/timeshift/ to make backups of your system, you could make it so it takes daily, hourly, weekly backups or whatever other frequency you prefer. Another alternative is to use a distro that uses BTRFS (better file system) https://btrfs.readthedocs.io/en/latest/, which will give you a similar functionality, and I'd say, even better. IMHO, openSUSE https://www.opensuse.org/ does a great job when it comes to BTRFS by providing a tool called "snapper" https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Snapper_Tutorial
Hope this helps!
