In doing some research I noticed I don't have any fonts installed that display Samaritan characters. So I did a search in Synaptic for "samaritan" but absolutely nothing showed up. Then I tried "middle east" and nothing there as well. Does anybody know if any of the fonts in the Debian repos will display Samaritan characters? Thanks.

do you mean ancient Hebrew ? if you have an ancient Hebrew/Samaritan keyboard then you may have to install http://rid.olfo.org/doc/samaritankeyboardosx0.40.tar.gz
No, I have a Hebrew font installed, but it doesn't cover Samaritan fonts, which I believe are less "square" than the Hebrew fonts we are accustomed to seeing.
And no, I don't have a Hebrew keyboard. Just the usual American English.
