I finally install Linux Mint 21.3 on my Lenovo W530 laptop. Everything seems to work fine except that the sound volume is very low. Once you start looking for solutions you get all sorts of reactions from, no way to easy, and non work. Some guys think we know what we are doing, and really, we still don't and they just throw terminology at you that does not make sense.
I have l7aud05ws14.zip loaded in my download folder and would like to install this to see if it would improve matters with volume and quality. The drivers that come with Mint do not seem to work that well. Any ideas or pointers?

Here's how

open Terminal

ctrl+alt+T

or....click on menu, and type in terminal

When terminal is open, type or copy and paste in :

Code:
alsamixer

When alsamixer is opened, as outlined above by @Condobloke, then you can:
press F1 key for help to see all the options you can use,
press Esc key to return to volume bars,
press F5 to see all volume bars,
raise the volumes by using the up arrow key, and move from bar to bar with the left and right arrow keys.
press Esc to quit alsamixer when you're finished.
