yes, usually. Just not here. No chip in computer for either wifi or bluetooth, at least according to what the zorin os tells me. And that would explain why the old peppermint os wouldn't connect to either, as well. I'm always willing to try other distros in case that is the issue, but first I want to solve the issue with the missing file

You could make a Ventoy USB Stick and try different Distributions and see if any of them support your WiFi card out of the box?

Sorry, but starlink is not an option for multiple reasons. There are other satellite services available, but they all cost money...I have literally none of that.

as long as the phone and the computer are on the same network (ie: connected to the same router - even if they're using different connection methods - ethernet from the computer to the router, wifi on the phone to the router) you could get a terminal emulator on the phone, ssh into the computer, then paste the output of whatever into a text file, then copy that out on the computer's side into the forums...

but honestly just taking a screenshot is going to be so much faster lol.

Not sure if that will help me at all, as my only connection to the internet is via the data package on my phone, and the computer has no wifi/bluetooth chip. That means I have to direct cable the phone to the computer to transfer files, and cannot use both at the same time (no reception inside house at all, and phone has to be at least 20' away to get reception. So, at least in my case, screenshots are the only way to go, and the easiest/hardest option.

I realize you haven't got any money, and no reliable way to send you stuff, but they do make long USB cables. You could use the phone as a wired connection with it sitting outside (preferably protected from the weather).

As there's a maximum recommended length of cable, you'll either have to get an active cable or deal with some packet loss/slowdowns from using a longer cable.

cheapest route seems to be a simple usb dongle. A friend is bringing one out to me when he visits in a few months.

if the cellular signal is only really good outside you could always look into getting a cellular range extender/antenna (mount it on the roof, lead the repeater inside) though I've read mixed reviews on those.

wifi dongle and wifi router is a good way to go though. look in my signature for information regarding dongles

Wifi has the potential to go a heck of a lot further than Bluetooth has.

That may be their best idea. Bluetooth is good for a bit more than 30' -- at its best. Without major obstructions and interference, wireless can reach up to five times that range.

A USB wireless adapter can be inexpensive, probably less expensive than a BT adapter.
