Operation System not found: MBR/Legacy machine

[SUPERFITTER]

I installed different versions of Linux on a Dell System Inspiron N7110.
After a reboot I received this message, Operation System not found.

Kernel: 6.8.0-51-generic
CPU: Intel i5-2410M (4) @ 2.900GHz
GPU: Intel 2nd Generation Core Proce
Memory: 776MiB / 5838MiB
The computer is a MBR/Legacy machine

I cannot find an answer to this problem?

Welcome tot rhe Linux.org forum.
Does that happen before or after you get the grub menu?
Some things to check make sure you have fast boot turned off if that machine has that
change the boot to Legacy instead of UEFI if it has that (I'm assuming your not trying to dual boot with Windows.)
make sure the disks are GPT or ACHI not something else.

sudo dmidecode -t 17

I looked this machine up and found it came out in 2011. I don't think it can be used with Ubuntu, Mint ,Zorin etc? Any suggestions on how I can keep this computer out of the E waste dump, it's in great shape?

The hold up is the ram the i5 will work with any distro. I'm not sure what your saying about the ram. Have you tried running in live
from the usb stick? I think if you clarify the ram you have we could make better suggestions. Is it 5 GB or only .75 GBS?

It is 6 Gb's. It runs great with any Linux system on a usb stick. The information that I posted here is from running neofetch in terminal.

Sorry it's the same page that @GatorsFan posted before. Did you look at that page?

That machine should run any of the distros. you may want to use a less extensive DeskTop Like XFCE OR Mate.
Cinnamon or gnome maybe a bit slow on it. KDE should actually work ok.

your machine is an I5 and should be no issue running any linux. people in here already covered your basics to look at. Biggest is you probably are running into UEFI vs legacy boot. go in your BIOS and look at the drives or boot section. see if the drive is set to UEFI or legacy then change it to the other. most of the time that is all it takes. don't forget to save the changes and not to a custom scheme.
