So I looked around at other threads from like 2012, and between here and then. Some of the discussions were that Linux didn't really have a standard defragment program.

Has that changed or is that still the same?

It would seem like... if you change the oil in your car it would last longer. Not sure why there wouldn't be a defrag program based on the same idea. There's still going to be wear and tear on the 'car', even if its more like a Honda (Linux) than an older lemon mobile (Windows).

Running Linux?.......you are now in the Rolls Royce league.

Defragging unnecessary.

Breathe a sigh of relief.

(if you run either a nvme or a SSD, they never require defragging anyway

Linux didn't really have a standard defragment program
Why?
It's a matter of intelligence, as pointed out here:

If you want a fuller more technical exposition of just how that intelligence works, it's here:

Better to ask the question than to always be in doubt.

I guess I was overthinking things
The more you use Linux, the more you will start noticing small differences in both the way Linux works, and you work with it, you can let yourself get bothered by it, or just think well it just works, and if it ain't broke don't fix it.
