We did the usual. I picked a car, drove in a parade, and we threw candy at children.

I have my usual litany of complaints, but they'd just be shouting into the wind. First, "Happy Memorial Day" doesn't make much sense. Second, thanking me for my service overlooks the whole point of the holiday. Finally, there's the jingoism. I won't dive too deep into that, as it'd end up being political. I'll just point out that nationalism is (generally speaking) why we have all these dead people to memorialize.

But, yeah, I still do the usual. This year, I pulled a tow truck out of the collection. It was built on a 1978 GMC 3500 and fully restored in 2019. It's nothing fancy, and that's kind of the point. Alas, it no longer smells like a tow truck. It doesn't even smell like stale cigarettes. (I smoke cigars, but I don't smoke in my vehicles.)

In a couple of hours, I'll have a few guests. Well, maybe a bit sooner than that.

Enjoy your time with friends and family, but let's remember why we can do this.
