On a spare computer I installed Devuan Freia (testing). About half the time when shutting down or restarting I get a message saying something to the effect that Mate-settings daemon is running, but not responding.
I get that Freia is a testing branch, but I'm trying to learn some new things. So one question is this: is Mate-settings daemon necessary? What, if any, negative consequences will happen if I delete it? One thing I tried is a reinstall of it but that had no effect.
