manjaro has actually been better. the last few times i used it. but this was a few years ago.
i said elsewhere i had it for a long while. as daily driver with mate desktop. it was awesome, with "dark" mode theme. which i usually don't like. but back then. i also used brave browser. planned to never again use firefox or a different chromium-based browser. funny that i tried vivaldi back then. was completely turned off. but now it fits like a glove. dislike supporting products by wicked people.
i'm sorry for going off the subject again. i had to remove manjaro with mate. because i wanted to improve performance. on the slow mechanical internal disk. so i replaced it with debian "bookworm" with mate desktop. which is from where i'm running firefox esr and writing this message. i also have spirallinux "bookworm" with cinnamon desktop. they both share the role of daily driver.
the really last time i tried manjaro. was toward the end of 2023. with mate desktop once more. should have blamed more things on the desktop. it didn't let me resize windows. later i discovered i needed to have the compositor enabled.
before that i kept remaking it with kde plasma. i even installed it on another computer. but kept getting black menu and dialog box rectangles. as if it kept trying to enforce wayland. then i made an adjustment in system settings. having to do with kernel hardware support. in which it failed to boot again. but it was my fault.
otherwise back then. manjaro's uefi procedure was quite fiddly. i just couldn't use it in the other computer. because i had to select the specific efi file. had to create the entry for it every time. then restart the computer again and select that entry. to actually go into the operating system.
when i used manjaro with kde. i even put on a personage. but often i was updating it more than using it. got into it about two or three times a week. that i didn't go into something based on debian "bullseye."
i also liked manjaro. with xfce desktop. but when one wants to remove pamac and "manjaro-welcome." it removes a whole bunch of fonts and theme-related stuff. (don't do it then!) it leaves the desktop with a drab appearance. still better than ordinary slackware or void on some days. i deeply wish i could still have that. or mate desktop more or less. like opensuse "tumbleweed" last year. which wasn't "dark" mode, it was a variation of "menta" theme.
for nearly two years. i've had endeavouros and manjaro side by side. boasting about being the best that was arch-based. against other things i tried. based instead on debian/ubuntu. but eventually gave it up. became weary with rolling-release distributions. it was added opensuse becoming unpredictable. getting kernel panic after successful install. no other distribution base with reputation did that to me before. it was added that fedora, beginning with version 39 hated my computer. either that or i didn't want to learn deeply. how to use anaconda installer. i did manage to use ultramarine with budgie desktop. for a few hours. but was forced to ditch it. instead opted for endeavouros with the same desktop. had that for four months at least. then replaced it with spirallinux with cinnamon desktop. shouldn't have kept changing lanes often like that.
i almost forgot to mention. manjaro was a bit dicey during 2022. not even counting the great problem with grub. that arch linux users experienced during autumn. one has to always remember, right after successful install. to search for the server mirrors closest to the user's home. if not then something like what happened to me. in the first time i put up with it. longer than a few hours. tried to do a full system upgrade through pamac. kept getting 404 internet errors from a single server in hungary.
it got better the next year. but some silly errors. i wish i could remember so i could tell you more. probably the black rectangles with kde. were resolved with plasma 5.27. it's strange i had that with one computer. that i haven't used everyday. generally yes, it was better throughout 2023. such that slowly but surely. i stopped reading the ugly haters. on the support forums of other arch-based distributions.
