I/O Errors on DVD-ROM (Blu-ray) Drive when not in use. Why?

Why would my DVD-ROM throw I/O errors when it's never used? I don't understand that. Maybe someone here does.

Looks like it throws the errors during boot. I'll just chalk it up to a bad drive? Back in the day, I never had any issues with it...

Try another cable and or different connections on the motherboard. Best to rule out all the possible causes outside of the drive. Diagnosing hardware problems is usually a process of elimination.

Good call. I'll try that. I'll also try using the drive with a disk, and see if it throws errors when reading the disk.

Sometimes even just disconnecting and replugging the cable can help. It just takes some time to figure out what the cause is. Hopefully you have a spare cable to make it crystal clear what the culprit is.

Yeah, I have several spare cables. I'll have to see what I can see.
