Going to Linux and would like suggestions

I just booted up the COSMIC spin on my CQ, and it definitely is usable, but still semi-incomplete. It can run on 3 gigs, but would have to test it out more. I'll throw some more RAM in that optiplex and try to daily it on there for a bit.

Update- If you want to try, I'd suggest 6-8 GB ram for this. It's idling at about 1.2 / 3 Gigs on the CQ, with 618.6MB on swap.

wow, great feedback, everybody! Thank you!

It's funny, I'm joining a cyber security guild in the tampa bay area and after I posted this, I got some of the exact advice from them: don't go to pop!_OS, start with bazzite; use linux mint for the surface pro; consider ubuntu; consider fedora.

So I'm taking everybody's advice and have already dl'd bazzite for a virtual machine.

I noticed cosmic was the gui for pop, and I liked the look of it, sure, but I'm trying to not be attached to GUIs. I like gnome because that came with ubuntu, but KDE is tried and true so it's good in my book.

BTW, I experience has already shown me that linux isn't easy, 6I just wanted something a little EASIER than others in terms of getting gaming to work. But, I'm getting the feeling that I just don't understand how far the community has come since I dabbled in linux 6+ years ago, and that I'm just being lazy. I think I might be a better tech than I give myself credit. We'll see though. :)

Seems like something Syncthing could help with.

Personally, for new users I'd recommend Linux Mint or Zorin. It's all up to user preference, distrohopping exists for a reason :D
I'm not qualified enough to speak on these things, though.
actually I meant to type Syncthing specifically but I guess I skipped "thing" lol
