I'm using Document Scanner 46.0. Has anyone noticed that the new version of Document Scanner seems to be lacking the ability to move left and right using the keyboard. I've used it on multiple distros and its the same problem. There is a horizontal scrollbar on the bottom but you have to use your mouse and the scrollbar to go left or right. The prior version of Document Scanner was just right.

I've tried it on multiple distributions (Debian 13, LMDE 7, etc.). Its not the distributions but the new version of Document Scanner. Seems like one of those updates where they took something that was working nicely and decided to change things around.

I know what you mean.
If it's a driver or library issue @GatorsFan would most likely know.

Maybe try going back to the older version if you can.

Lets see if the left and right keyboard functionality is missing for others here as well. If so then it is one of those questionable updates.

maybe a firewall blocks the access from your scanner

It's a long-running bug of document scanner; https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/simple-scan/-/issues/421

I see the same result as the person commenting for v49.0.1, i.e. scroll bars return but the ability to scroll pages with arrow keys got lost which makes it cumbersome to operate.
Ah thanks for sharing that. Ok makes sense if is a bug. As per the comments in the link the scrollbar is not visible as well which is the same for me but I did not mention this because I thought it had something to do with my dark mode/theme.

Scanner works fine and document scanner works as well. Its just that the GUI (horizontal scrollbar) and left and right arrow keys are screwed up for the program.

More of the same from the link above:

This tells me (I'm still learning) that the configuration file that the application program interface reads to launch and function correctly needs a serious adjustment in the code.

The link that our member @Trml posted is dated 2024.
I realize that it takes time to rebuild, reconfig and rewrite code in order to rectify a bug.
I don't understand why this hasn't been taken care of sooner as it has been going on for a year now.

With this said I wonder if the developers at Gnome are overwhelmed?

Since I write articles for the Linux Community I'd like to know what I could do to help.
Any ideas guys?

I was thinking the same thing as to why this has not been fixed. This is probably one of the most used programs and it should have high priority.

Agreed.

I guess we'll see what happens.
Sorry I don't know how to fix the issue. Believe me, if I knew how I'd tell you.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

In the issue we see one draft attempt to fix the bug, and one that fixes a part of it. We also see they marked it as appropriate for newcomers, i.e. an invitation to get feet wet and I'm sure there will be more feedback for new contributors attempting these issues. So, it's not like there is nothing happening, just unfortunately no complete fix yet.

Also, it makes usage cumbersome with multi-page documents, but the issue is nothing critical like crashing without being able to save a scan. The editing functionality of the application is limited anyway, you can always save a scan and work-around by using another one to edit.

True. I have PDF arranger which I always use post scan.
