Distro Bashing - everyone needs a hobby.

Yep, you can think whatever you want about whatever distro or brand, but never expect people to have the same opinion as you. Michelin tires are the most expensive tires, and they very well may be "the best", but there's so much stuff in the road that can pop your tires despite the brand, i'm not buying them.

I'm currently not a fan of arch because i don't like such a difficult install, but i'm fine with other people using it. I don't get the anti-systemd arguments, but I installed antiX on my laptop anyway as an experiment (i like the default art, but other than that i don't have much in the way of opinions). I think Vim is a lot better than Emacs as a text editor, but that's just me: someone with less sensitive hands and an extensive knowledge of LISP might disagree. I don't need my text editor to double as a browser though, I'm fine with the standard browsers (more or less...). I've been switching between firefox and chrome for many years.

If you want to be reasonable, it's all about the specifics: what is it about your distro do you like? What is it about your car or tires that you do or don't like? Because there's no objective "better", that's all just our imagination.

Meh... Keep it to a dull roar, including bashing people who opt to use other OSes. You know, be civil about it.
yeah we can't have a rule about criticizing distros, and at the same time want discussions of experiences/opinions to flourish. I don't think we need to be sensitive about the insults towards the systems themselves, even though it's better not to insult each other. If someone on here said that "debian is a horrible distribution", i probably wouldn't say anything unless they were talking about some specific functionality that i know from experience isn't true.

It's also not an answer to fix a Windows problem with, "Use Linux!"

I don't think I've ever done this, but on the other hand... I'm probably not going to give much Windows help in Linux forum.

Our rules can be largely distilled down to 'be civil'.

There's a broader web out there. It wasn't uncommon on more Windows-focused support sites to have someone chime in that their problem would be solved (even if it wouldn't) by moving to Linux. You still see people doing that today.

We don't have too many people using Windows and posting here, but those that do are often told that they should use Linux.

How about a car analogy...

It's like telling someone whose alternator is broken to buy a new car.

Granted, there are times when it's cheaper and better to replace your car, but most of the time folks just really want to know how to test and replace an alternator.
