In Linux mint 21.3 cinnamon, in Firefox 122 when I click on a link to something the desktop session shuts down & I'm back at the login screen, first time it happened I was on the Google chrome download page, I clicked the download for Linux link, second time I was logged into a banking site, there was a "You have an unread message" link, on both occasions it was immediate shutdown, I installed chromium from the software centre just to test just to test it & the same thing happened, so I'm guessing it's not browser specific. What could be causing this?
Thanks.

Did LM21.3 run ok in "live" mode......before you fully installed ?

It seemed fine but I didn't click any links while in live mode so I can't be sure of that

does your pc have a graphics card?....or does it use onboard graphics?

click onmenu...type in Driver Manager....it will scan for drivers etc

let us know the result

This was on my wife's desktop, I tried the same sites on my laptop also LM21.3 with no problem

It's built in graphics but I searched for drivers after installing the system & it reported that none were required

if graphic acceleration is on [in the bios] then try turning it off.

Was this an upgrade from LM21.2 ?...or a fresh install?

did it upgrade seamlessly>.....any hiccups ?

It was a fresh install, I had lots of issues & eventually I had to install in compatibility mode as it would not install normally (I don't know why) but apert from this issue everything else seems normal

I will take a look in bios and report back, thanks
I have looked in bios, the only reference I can find to graphics configuration is as follows
Initiate graphics adapter PEG/PCI
Video memory size 32MB
DVMT Mode select DVMT MODE
DVMT / Fixed memory 256MB

None of this means anything to me so I haven't made any changes

This is my system information if it helps at all

I have just downloaded Epiphany browser, just to try & the same links open fine, so it would appear to be browser related in some way.

Where did you get your Mint ISO from ?
Did you Verify your ISO ?
Have you tried another Browser...Brave. ?

If from here...https://www.linuxmint.com/edition.php?id=311 and try another mirror.

There may be a log in the mint installation of the installer's work itself during the installation. In some debian based installations it's in the directory /var/log/installer.

If by chance your installation has such a directory with the log, you could run this command as root to see if errors were made during the installation:
Code:
grep -i error /var/log/installer/syslog
Not all errors are important, but some may be so it's worth checking if the file exists.

Beyond that, one can check for errors in the other log files in /var/log, and also using the journalctl facility with a command such as:
Code:
journalctl -b -x -p 3

Beyond that again, you can check for missing firmware and microcode which can be implicated in that "shutdown" symptom described, with the commands, as root:
Code:
dmesg | grep -i firmware
dmesg | grep -i microcode

Yes it was the official linuxmint.com & I verified it, I also tried again from another mirror just in case.
I burned it to a flash drive with Balena etcher & I used the same one when I installed it on my laptop which I have no issues with so I can't see it would be the ISO that's the problem

ok you have a T series intel cpu with on board graphics [the same as this machine] I run MINT LMDE without problems,
It sounds like a graphic acceleration problem

OK so is there a way to fix that please or will I have to try a fresh install again, I sincerely hope not

Could it be worth going back to 21.2, I was wondering about the experimental wayland stuff that's in 21.3, might that have something to do with it
