Debian 13 suddenly freezes and i cant interact with anything

The fans are likely chopked with dust, dirt etc etc

Open the laptop would be the best approach

You could use canned air to blow in through the vents (usually located on the edge at the rear of the laptop.... go looking, you will find them.
Hey hey
I opened up the laptop, cleaned the CPU fan but so far it doesn't seem to be doing too much of a difference, at first it was around 40ish which was great but now it keeps going to about 85
I have also accidently ripped a wire near the fans and I may have to try and solder it back on, another wire looked like it had water damage on it.
might have to ditch this guy and get a new machine :(

Hard to give up on them, but comes a time of no return. The next thing I'd try if you haven't already is Nvidia Drivers.

To change from nvidia to Nouveau driver

  • Open "Software & Updates"
  • Go to "Additional Drivers" tab
  • Select "Using X.Org X server -- Nouveau" driver
  • Click "Apply Changes"
  • Reboot system
Let me know if this works or not

Info came from:

yup it did, had to do the terminal method but it did work.
Im no longer getting any errors

I'm not sure what you want to do exactly but the solution may depend on your desktop environment, I don't use hybrid graphics so I can only give you a few sources on this of what you could try to use.
Since you're using Xfce the options might not be straight forward. Another thing you could do is switch to something like PikaOS which is based on Debian where they have automatic Nvidia gpu detection and handle what driver you need and stuff like that
thanks for the reply
I probably wont switch an os since it gets kind of annoying having to put everything on it again but ill look into the NVIDIA Optimus thing

switched nvidia drives, praying it works since i really dont want to have to buy something new
if this doesnt work ill switch to the intel gpu and if that doesnt work ill try getting an external cooling thing for my laptop
it is very old though so im not really expecting everything to work, the battery needs to be replaced for a while now i just havent done it

Checked it out but it looks like my GPU is not in the supported list
I still appreciate the help though, thank you

You're GPU is still supported by the 580 driver from what I can find on the Nvidia website, which PikaOS supports.

I was just giving another option in case you want an easier one.
