Complete noob with obsessive tendencies

As mentioned in another comment, I'd like to hope that you had no such experiences here.
No, definitely not here. Our lot are pretty accepting of whatever the individual chooses to use, bless 'em.....but some fora I've frequented over the years have been, shall we say, 'dismissive". (The LQ crowd are particularly straight-laced in their views). TBH, the most welcoming crew I've come across have been the Porteus community....which doesn't surprise me, given that Porteus ain't so different to Puppy in concept.

Seems my reputation has preceded me, 'cos there's folks over there I don't know at all, who definitely seem to have heard of me..!

I'm fairly thick-skinned when it comes to my use of Puppy. As far as I'm concerned, it's their loss for not even being prepared to at least TRY an alternative 'take' on the usual narrative.

She 'works' for me.....and I don't see that changing any time soon.

Everybody has differing tastes, at the end of the day. Good luck to 'em, I say.

Mike. ;)

Hence why I always recommend that beginners start off with a mainstream distro.....get the hang of how modern, current Linux does things.....and become comfortable with that.
Thus, the apparent dichotomy between my own personal preference and what I recommend to others, if & when asked.
This is kind of the way I am with Tiny Core: It's just far enough off of the mainstream that people who already know a little bit about linux probably won't like it right away and an utter noob will need some hand-holding. While I don't mind doing a little hand holding if someone is truly interested, I'm usually not out there farming new users who will need it. It's great for me, but I usually don't recommend it to new Linux users.

This reminds me of a sticker I once saw in the rear window of a car: In the style those college decals that say in bold block letters along the bottom of edge of a car's rear window "PENN STATE UNIVERSITY" (or whatever school the driver happened to have graduated from), this one just said, "YOUR COLLEGE SUCKS".

Sometimes I think many Linux users (but not here on linux.org) are like this. If you're not using the distro -they- use then clearly you're just -wrong- and in need of correction and/or shaming.

LOL I'd say that's us, but we can be second on your list.
