I am using KDE5 on Debian. When I created the first user accounts I was using Debian 10, but after upgrading to Debian 11 I created more users and I noticed that some colors and such changed and I was not allowed to modify them. I can modify colors for other stuff, but I can't change the colors for the widget/task bar on the bottom of the screen or the menu bar on the top of the screen, even with an admin account. Do I need some kind of theme editor instead? I really don't like the medium grey color used by my current KDE theme.

I also lost access to the windows key which pulls up the menu from the little Debian circle icon on the widget/task bar. Some accounts can use this while others can't. That menu uses the same background color as the widget/task bar and menu bar.

On another note, how can I find out how many vertical pixels the title bar uses? I have a monitor resolution of 1920x1200 and I've been thinking about adjusting the height of the task and menu bars so I would have 1920x1080 after accounting for the title bar.

I;m not sure if this will help your problem since i don't use kde5. I do run some kde5 apps inside my DE though. I had a very difficult time getting these apps to match a somewhat darkish theme I was using. I found the app qt5ct that was able to manipulate kde5's color scheme and/or chose a theme. It gave an option to omit certain apps from the changes that use qt but were not specifically kde5 apps. In my case I also needed to add...

export QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME=qt5ct

to my .bash or .profile file.

Hmmm, I don't appear to have qt5ct. What DE are you using?

Sorry. I'm a little Linux rebel dealing with an old qt3 DE renamed Trinity, putting Ubuntu through testing. Qt5 or. so called Kde recent, I don't use, but I do like a few apps dedicated to it's DE. I just felt the need to try and theme Kde5 withing this ancient DE, and found qt5ct a very convenient tool to do this is all.. I thought maybe it could be of help, or be relevant. Maybe not, within the kde5 DE. but very cool outside this DE for consistent themeing.
