CD/ROM is flat-lined HELP

I just installed Linux mint 16 Petra kde and cd/rom thereafter has not responded I can't even partision the harddrive with ghost bsd like I had wanted to . Now I have windows 7 I want to use this disk now but the cd/rom is not responding does anybody have a hint for me I would love to hear the ideas .

GhostBSD is a LiveCD.

If you have changed the BIOS/Boot Order to start from the CD-Rom and it does not, then it has nothing to do with any installed Desktop e.g. Linux mint 16 Petra kde --- and the problem is purely Hardware related (mechanical) .

External CD-ROM drives with a USB interface are cheap enough. If your problem is hardware, that may be your path forward. (We have used them to setup raw systems that come without optical drives.)
