I have a Brother printer, and it works fine on all Windows devices. It did previously work on my Arch Linux computer as well, but as of now it and another computer I installed Kubuntu on does not connect to the printer.

When going to the printer's local IP address, Windows can reach and load the admin page, but both Linux computers fail. Running the ping command also results in nothing being returned.

Another Canon printer does work however, so it isn't a CUPS problem. I also installed the Brother printer drivers.

Has anyone encountered this before? What can I do?

Make sure you belong to the lpadmin group:

sudo adduser username lpadmin

Reload CUPS:

sudo service cups restart

You then access CUPS via this address : http://localhost:631/

Click "Add Printer" and follow through: you will see an option to use a PPD file.

The printer can be added, however it doesn't actually send jobs, it just loops on "Connecting to printer" when trying. The main issue is that the Linux computers can't reach the printer's local IP even though other devices can.

Weirdness is a 'happening' well known to me.

If its outcome is good, then it counts !
