Yeah, I feel ready to explore some programming and I think my experience from C# 
in college will help me to tackle Java. I tried installing Proprietary Oracle Java on my Laptop along with Android SDK and it seemed to go okay. I'm probably going to do the same on my Desktop and while doing so adding the steps to a script file to make it easy to do this on any Linux in case I distro hop.
I'm not an expert in BASH, but I really like even being able to throw simple steps into a file and execute it again. I'm following the steps from Techmint: http://www.tecmint.com/install-java-jdk-jre-in-linux/
I've heard some people use Eclipse for this, but I'll probably stick with the Android SDK.
