  • Old age has its challenges. I'm now convalescing with broken leg. But it's nice to be out of the hospital and nursing home and back to home sweet home!

    Therapy begins tomorrow.

I saw this a few days ago but didn't think I'd respond. I've since changed my mind, obviously. I didn't want to detract from your plight. After all, it's not about me.

Which specific leg bone did you break?

Back in 2018, October 30th to be exact, I was a passenger in a spectacular automobile wreck. I don't wish to detract from your plight, so I'll just leave it more or less at that.

In my case, I broke my femur. You know the ball at the top of your femur? Well, make a diagonal line where the ball attaches. That's where I broke it. It was completely disconnected from my other bony bits and quite drastically so.

Suffice to say, I was on my back for a long time -- but PT started the day after my surgery. It started small, but immediately got to the point where it was horrible. I could not wiggle my toes without some pain and they wanted me using a walker on day one. The PT people were horrible people who made me do horrible things. I hated them with a passion.

Eventually, I was in my own home and had a PT specialist in my home for as much as two hours a day. I decided I'd make the best recovery I could. For a while, there was some talk of a (temporarily) nursing home. I wasn't having anything to do with that, so I even had in-home nursing for a few months. They did 12 hour shifts and I needed them as I was still getting IV pain meds.

Anyhow, as I said, I decided I'd make the best recovery I could. I sucked the pain up and worked through it. I didn't just do my PT. I did more than they asked for, regardless of the pain. If they wanted me to do it 10 times, I'd do it at least 11 times. It was horrible.

I don't want to detract from your plight. This post is not for that.

No, this post is to strongly suggest you do your PT. It sucks, but it's the best thing you can do right now. Don't just do what they tell you to do, try to push harder than they tell you. It's perfectly manly if you've got a tear or two. The pain of PT is horrible, but it's worth it. I can even jog, which is something we never thought I'd do again.

I attribute that to doing my PT.

    Good luck with your recovery!

I broke both bones near my ankle. 4 screws and 2 metal plates.

I can put weight on it on Monday.
