Current laptop running an older version of Mint Cinnamon. I'm trying to install the newest version on a Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro. I did install the older version from a previous USB just to see if it would work. I now want the newest one on the Lenovo. I downloaded the Debian Package and attempted to install it. After I give authentication to open the Debian Pkg, I got this message: "There seems to be a programming error in aptdaemon, the software that allows you to install/remove software and to perform other package management related tasks." The Etcher download was done on my laptop running the older version of Mint. It's gotten pretty glitchy and I'm not knowledgeable enough to troubleshoot it.
Can someone please advise what to do? Thank You!!

EDIT: I was able to extract the Etcher zip files but when I double click on the file, it simply opens a list of the files and doesn't bring up a window for me to drag the Mint ISO file to it.

You are trying to run the newest version of Mint Cinnamon on your Lenovo.....yes?.... why did you download a debian package ?

The latest version of Linux Mint Cinnamon can be downloaded from :

You would usually use balena etcher to load the .iso file (from the link just above) to a usb stick (preferably of at least 8GB)) ....and then boot the Lenovo to that usb stick.

Thank you. I can't seem to get the Etcher program to open in order to load the ISO file to the usb stick. I don't see an exe file when viewing the list of files.

Is this on a windows PC or a Linux PC?

I was watching youtube videos trying to resolve the problem and it was suggested to use the debian package for the latest Mint release.
