I've been building a new collection of music. It's a bit of a tangent, but these files will go on their own distinct MP3 player. I have other collections on different devices and with different genres or themes. Some MP3 players stay in a specific vehicle. Some get changed in and out, depending on my mood and what type of driving I'll be doing.
So, I found a 'new' tool. It's called Stacher, or Stacher7.
When I first used it, there was a problem with yt-dlp. This was sorted over a couple of days, but it just wouldn't let me download full playlists.
Yes, it lets you download playlists. It will then automatically turn those files into the type of audio you want - including .flacc. You can download the videos. You can download single files. If things don't appear to work, just poke at your settings in a logical manner. You can also read the logs.
I've now used it for a couple of weeks. So far, I've been quite happy with it. Various playlists will have songs that are no longer actually available at the original location, so those obviously won't be downloaded. You can also run into instances where the content is geolocked and not available in your area -- which is why they make VPNs. You can also use cookies from a browser and so many other things.
You can do things like pick the quality of the audio file saved to your storage. You can keep a database so that you don't download the same file. The list of options is simply larger than I'm going to type out. If you'd like a pretty sweet GUI frontend for yt-dlp, consider trying this one.
If you get errors, look in the logs. You can also restart a download with verbose logs. I've probably had a success rate in excess of 95% (after they fixed the bug in yt-dlp). The bug wasn't in Stacher but in yt-dlp itself. If you bump into errors, I might be able to help you get them sorted.
