Hello everyone!

Looking for someone to help me with this:

I use a program called FADE IN PRO, it is a text processor for audiovisual scripts. In general, the program works fine in GNU / Linux, but it has a defect that I have not been able to solve (and as far as I know, neither has the Fade In programmer):

Fade in saves the files in its own format, .fadein, but my system doesn't recognize it and saves it as an .xlm inside a zip folder.

The consequence of this is that every time I want to open a file I have to use "open with".

I am looking for a way to fix this error, so that the program recognizes its own extensions and saves the text files with its own logo, instead of with the zip folder.

I've tried other forums, but so far no one has been able to give me any advice beyond the obvious "open with".

The program can be downloaded for free, in case someone wants to try it.

I use it with Mint 20.03, although I have tried it with other distributions and it offers the same problem.

Thanks!

Thank you for your response, BoringZombie!
I have talk with them several times and they just say "it's in the is in the queue of issues"... but it's not a priority for thema and finally they don't solve it. Or because they don't know how or because they prefer to spend their time on non-linux versions...
Then you have to wait until it's fixed I guess. That's really nothing anybody can fix except them.

"open with"

Doesn't your desktop environment let you pick something like "Always use this application to open these files"? Something like this:

Perhaps take a look at some of the free software for writers.

The list in the link I’m about to post is recent, but isn’t entirely accurate/on point. Not all of the programs are for script writers. A couple of programs recommended by it are primarily for Novelists. But potentially, these could still be used by people writing scripts for stage or screen.

And it also recommends scribus, which I would call a publishing tool. Scribus is the sort of thing you’d use once you’ve got all of your text if you’re self-publishing something for printing. I’m not sure it belongs on this list.

And there is a markup language (fountain) included in the list, which could be used by anybody, with any editor. But would need some kind of a separate conversion tool, to allow you to publish your script to .pdf, or some other printable/distributable format.

But the list may have something useful for you:

Well, may be! but I will keep trying somehow, because a need the program fully functional and I am not going to turn on a non-linux computer... Thanks!

Yes KGIII, I tried (and of course it works) but then FADE IN become the default program for all ZIP files (not only the .fadein ones...) And that sets another kind of problems, because obviously FADE IN can't open common ZIP files... Thank you for your response!

Thanks JasKinasis! I tried a bunch of them, and some are no so bad, but they lack a lot of the functions of Fade In. I used Trelby some time ago, but don't know way its a few years I can't install it in the new releases of Mint. KIT Scenarist is quite good, but I don't like the fact that you can only save the files in the app, and not in another folder (unless you export it and so), you can't also change the standard font they propose... I'll have a look to some of the other suggestions!

Good point. In my work pattern, I pretty much never see .zip files. So, that'd not bother me. If nothing else, presuming you use .zip files as seldom as I do, you could then right click and open with those .zip files that are really zip files - perhaps a passable compromise until the software vendor gets it squared away.

Good point you too. In fact it's what I do now...

That seems about your own 'solution'. We can't really help. The software vendor is going to have to resolve this. I'm not a programmer (at least not lately and not well), but this seems like it'd be a trivial fix. But, I have no idea how well their code is maintained and how good their staff is.

I just e-mailed the developer (again!)... Will wait for the response. Thank you!
