After installing (yes, and updating) Ubuntu 24.04 on this new laptop, sound didn't work. Searching suggested to try blacklisting sof-audio-pci-intel-tgl which worked... for a while. Then sound went away again. Rebooted, it came back and stayed for a couple of days, but then it went away again. And this time, rebooting didn't fix.

joliver@mmjoliver:~$ inxi -A
Audio:

G'day jnojr, Welcome to Linux.org

What you are experiencing is a pain in the butt....you are showing great patience by sticking with it.

If this were me, I would simply ditch ubuntu and try another distro.

A good place to start might be to grab a usb stick and download and 'burn' ventoy onto it.

Then add whatever distros to it that you wish to. Simply a matter of dragging and dropping the .iso file to the usb (Yes....that easy)

Boot whichever OS...it will just run in ram, initially. ....but it will give you the opportunity to "test drive" whatever you like. if you find another OS that doesnt have sound, it may point to your laptop....but I doubt it
Suggestions?....Linux Mint 22.1, LMDE6, MX Linux, take your pick. ....there are hundreds
