Total operating system on a memory stick ?

Is it possible to have a distro on a usb drive and save to it? I would like to have a usb drive that I can put into any computer and save info to that memory stick. I have Mint 15 on a stick now that I use but bookmarks, internet searches, firefox data, ect. are lost on the next boot up. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Yes.

A normal install to a USB stick is like a LiveCD. When you switch off everything, but the basic install, will disappear.

The next step up is "persistent" or "persistence" which has a bit for saving stuff.

Then it is possible to make a full installation. It can be fairly large e.g. 8Gb.

Excellent. Thanks arochester, the article "maketecheasier" explains what I needed. I had looked at a lot of web info but came up empty. Now I cant wait to get home and test it out.
