APT is a front-end to dpkg" Therefore do they both use the same package list? In other words, since I found the dpkg package list at /var/lib/dpkg/status does this list have everything or is there another list for apt?

Although both Debian utilities, and both used to install from the repositories, They are not quite the same

APT [advanced package manager] is a front end when you use apt or apt get, it not only calls for the application you want from the repositories, but also calls for any dependencies you particular distribution needs to run the said application

DPKG installs your application, you can use it to call the application you want, but it doesn't install any needed dependencies
