[SELF SOLVED] Why does KolourPaint open as a separate program when used for "Open with..."?

I've placed KolourPaint on the panel with a custom icon and when I click on it to open the program, that works fine. But when I right click an image and select "Open with... KolourPaint", the program appears on the panel as a separate program, not as a program that is already on the panel and on top of that it doesn't seem to be using the icon I've set for it:

Any ideas why this is happening?

I thought that there might another instance of it installed somewhere but gnome-search-tool found nothing of the kind and the process of KolourPaint in gnome-system-monitor appears right - with the custom icon, so it's not another instance, something else is going on.

Funny, but myself from 2 years ago gave me the solution. I had forgotten I've posted that other topic. It didn't even cross my mind that I might be the one needing it in the future.

This info isn't easy to find on the internet, so I decided to share the solution here for those who don't know it and have come across the same problem. It's about desktop environments that use programs from other environments, which was my case - I'm using Cinnamon with a few programs from KDE...
