Hey just wanted to share how I mapped my regular controller in order to play Skyward Sword in Dolphin. It can be a little tricky to do. I am using a Logitech controller that has the exact layout as a PlayStation controller. I think an Xbox controller would probably very similar if not the exact same. The attached pictures show each tab in the Dolphin config area and there are pics of the controller I'm using.
Here is a key for the buttons:
Button 0 = X
Button 1 = A
Button 2 = B
Button 3 = Y
Button 4 = YB
Button 5 = RB
Button 6 = LT
Button 7 = RT
Button 8 = Back/Select
Button 9 = Start
Button 10 = Push left joystick straight down
Button 11 = Push right joystick straight down
Axis 5-, 5+, 4-, 4+ = Dpad
Axis 1-, 1+, 0-, 0+ = Left joystick *Set the Total Yaw and Total Pitch both to 90.00
Axis 3-, 3+, 2-, 2+ = Right joystick
