I'm trying to install popos onto this hp laptop after using mint for a few months. I have gotten as far as selecting a drive to install pop os onto and for some reason im not seeing my laptop's disk and it's only showing the flashdrive im booting from. i can see the Laptop's disk under dev/sdb so maybe i can do this manually. any tips for doing this the first time? I'd rather not brick the laptop if i can avoid it.

So we get this correctly right from the start....the screenshot below refers to your flashdrive/usb stick...Yes ?
The shot below, is which drive ?...isn't that your main drive (sda/57.73GB) ?
The third shot from GParted. ....shows sdb1, as having a problem.....the orange ! mark right beside sdb1...at only 300 mb that is possibly space for EFI ?....but it is unused
sdb2 is a used drive...120gb(approx total space, 88.62 used, with 22.55GB unused

First a warning, POP is developed by System 76 for their own manufactured machines, it is not made as a general release, if it works out the box fine, if not you could spend days trying and still fail.

How Do I Install Linux:
Depending on the age of your machine you will need an installation medium, this is usually a clean pen-drive of 4 GB minimum (try not to exceed 16 GB), make sure it is of good quality and formatted to FAT32 or exFAT.
On older machines that are not USB boot-able, you will need a clean new DVD-R. You will also need courage, patience, and time. This is just the start of your journey, the step where you learn how to install Linux.
If there is anything else on the pen-drive it will not work [there is one exception, a multi bootable pen-drive made with Ventoy]

You need to select a drive that has at least 20G of space.
