Is Ubuntu the best way to go for a first timer? I'm learning Networking Security, if that helps! Thanks for any help.

Any of the *buntu distros are great for starting out with Linux. Mint is another great distro for Linux newbies too. Very beginner friendly!

If you are trying to get into network security:
Once you have got used to using Linux via whatever distro you decide to get started with; you might want to check out Kali Linux, which is a specialist distro aimed at network security professionals. It has a ton of different tools for auditing network security, penetration testing and forensic analysis.

I usually have a copy of Kali installed on a bootable USB thumb-drive. Has come in handy a few times!

EDIT:
BTW: Welcome to the community!

Welcome and yes Ubuntu is a good choice and Mint

Some websites to help you out I would highly recommend...

LEARN THE COMMAND LINE! I can't emphasize this enough to beginners (I'm still learning it!). Don't worry about shell scripts or any programming for now. All it will do is frustrate and confuse you and then you just say the heck with it and go back to Windows. But learn the basic command and you'll have more power than you'll ever thought you could have!

Hello. I'm beginnig with Linux. Do you know if it's possible install Stata in Linux?

Apparently yes.

From the Strata Website:

[*]Linux
  • Any 64-bit (x86-64 or compatible) or 32-bit (x86 or compatible) running Linux
Whenever you are attempting to install any software on any O/S, you should first consult the manufacturers website, or the author's website for information on the compatible systems. That's how I obtained the above information.
