Hello Codypy1,
Thanks for your answer.
Why I use XP pro ? Well because, after having DOS, Win3, Win 95, Win98 and Win98 SE Plus, the XP is for me the best OS Microsoft brought to us.
And of course Vista was a catastrophe, Win 7 is a bit better but misses features
I have in XP, and Win 8 is perhaps good for tablets but is terrible on a desktop.
And then, there is the question of finding alternative programs running under
Linux, for some programs I'm using under XP.
I was nosing around on the Linux site and found three OS's which seem to be full
programs that are userfriendly : that's to say : +- like a desktop in Windows.
Fedora Ubuntu Mint 15
I'm currently using some astronomy programs (ie World wide telescope from Microsoft.
Furthermore I have Coreldraw 12, Sketch up from Google,.
On line I am using You Tube and Spotify..and the real Player.
Yes, up to know I didn't find but much confusion in the Linux shop.
Apparently it seems to be a series of OS's that everyone with programming
ability , can adapt and build upon to have finally a version suiting all his needs.
I have not the slightest notion on programming...
What I'm looking for is simply a Linux alternative that I could eventually
consider as a better version of the XP from Microsoft.
I would first install that Linux OS in a doubleboot system in order to do a number of tests.
Ultimate question for now : what is that X-Win 32 PC X server doing exactely?
Thanks for your time and hoping to hear from You
Best regards
