Those of you who have used Windows before coming to Linux probably have used/seen AIMP. Now that player is a beta version available natively for Linux. This is what it could look like for you. Well, that's an old skin from AIMP2 that I took and edited (which was in the times of early Windows 7), that's why in the top left corner it reads AIMP2 but in reality it's AIMP6.

Since the developer writes a program for an OS he's seen only in a meme, this player isn't hardcode bound to pipewire or anything else and it's even surprising it actually works due to that fact about the developer, but it does work. :D It will provide you with dozen audio options ALSA/PA among them. Supports about a dozen languages, if not more, has at least twice more options - you could spend an hour customizing it. The default skin looks a bit like deadbeef, but if you're like me and prefer the winamp-style skin, just choose "Classic" layout. From there it's not hard to find a skin you like. I could even give you mine, if you like it.

Ever since I moved to Linux in 2015, AIMP was the only thing I missed from Windows. Finally the developer decided to make it for Linux.

With my equalizer settings I already made it sound better than Audacious and anything else for Linux AND I made it have sound almost 1:1 to that in Windows.
There are some quirks and bugs you'll have to find a workaround for, like the fact that the player doesn't recognise the multimedia X keys: all of the keyboard multimedia keys are unknown to it.
And word of advice - if you decide to try it and/or use it, DO NOT enable "preload next track" bc gets stuck and won't jump to the next track immediately.

I won't give you links to it bc it might look like an ad to the mods. You just Duck/Google for "aimp linux download". The true URL is aimp.ru. If you find it somewhere else, it's most probably a scam.

@wizardfromoz will be happy with this player (I think) bc it offers different channels, including simple stereo and surround sound - something Audacious and a bunch of others don't offer.

Nice find, @rado84 and thanks for sharing. I don't download music, but if I do I will keep it in mind.

Brian @Condobloke may find a use for it. Not sure if he uses Clementine, and I know he used to use Nightingale.

Cheers

And he now uses DeadBeef. Simple straightforward and bulletproof

winamp-style skin
My first player ever to use was winamp, never heard of aimp, but I was never much about music anyway.

UI looks very good and nostalgic.

Nice find
It's not a find, I've been using the smartphone version since the first smartphone appeared on the market and regularly visiting his forum, so when he released the linux version, it was a surprise, not news.

And you surely must listen to radios, then? Like any media player this one can stream radios too.
I'd go nuts if I don't have a music playing for more than a day.

This player has a huge potential but with a developer who refuses to listen and understand basic things about Linux, AIMP will remain a mediocre player at best, even 10 years from now.
I had high hopes for AIMP, considering how well it performs in Android and Windows. But on Linux it's a disaster. So if anyone decides to give it a try, keep these things in mind:

• the player doesn't know what to do with and how to handle large amounts of physical memory. Apparently to AIMP 62.62 GiB is ginormous and as a result it often freezes/crashes.
• the player doesn't know what XFS is and as a result it often freezes at the end of a song - right when it has to jump to the next track.
• the player doesn't work well with large playlists. By "large" I mean playlists with more than 10 songs in them. I just loaded it the whole discography of Thyrfing (~ 60 songs (+/-)) and guess what the player did... :D :D

I can't explain it to the developer that using VMs with linux won't help much in developing AIMP and hunting down the bugs. His brain is Windows-wired and it can't be changed.

So, if you're willing to test it further and report bugs to that... mor(m)on named Artem Izmailov, go ahead. I ran out of patience with him. But be prepared for the regular phrase he uses, just like any Russian developer: "But it works on my computer".
