Need to build the Kernel ?

Hi All,

I have edited a file option.c from this location /drivers/usb/serial/option.c
Do i have build kernel?
Is there any way that i can compile this file?

Yes, you would have to rebuild the kernel to use this file.

Thanks ryanvade, Yes same file i need to add one #define for hardware.

Still, is there is no way that to compile that file separately and replace the object file?

You may be able to build the single file just like any other C kernel module and then use insmod. That may cause issues though.

As an example:

make drivers/usb/host/xhci-hcd.ko

rmmod xhci-hcd && insmod drivers/usb/host/xhci-hcd.ko

What kind of issues will it cause.

After creating new option.ko module, do i have to make any changes to other files?
will it work as the old module option.ko?

Can i build only option.c or entire USB folder or Serial Folder?
