linux with multiple NIC

hi guys
i have a linux machin with two NIC. both NIC card has IP address in different subnet and only one NIC has GW. but i can ping NIC B that is in vlan 5 and does not have GW.
why linux answer the ping request from NIC A ?

Would that be because they are connected by the switch? Perhaps disconnect NIC B from the switch and run run ping to test the theory.
