Linux memes

Just an FYI - i had to delete one of Rado's images, was from http:// rather than https://

Still have a warning on my padlock, so there may be another.

Be sure to only use https so you don't compromise our site - you can channel your images through imgur.com if you wish.

Wiz

Wiz - Posting a http link doesn't compromise the security of the site at all. It's just that when viewing the site over https - users browsers will warn them via the padlock item if there are any elements of the page that are not coming via https.

It could give users the impression that linux.org is in some way unsafe. But it doesn't endanger the security/integrity of the site.

When viewing a website via https - all of the data for the page is encrypted. If some of the items on the page are linked from another site via http - those items will be loaded into the users browsers via http, unencrypted.

So worst case scenario - if somebody is snooping on a users internet traffic. They will be able to clearly see any items that are coming via http. So in this thread - that would just be the few Linux related memes that were posted using http links, along with a bunch of unintelligible encrypted nonsense!

But if it's that much of a problem, perhaps Rob could put in a routine to completely reject http links in the editor, or automatically convert them to https?
That would save you admins/mods from having to manually look out for http links in posts.

I use https everywhere as an add on (firefox) I added a rule for linux.org....and now there is no busted padlock.
Note the pic I have loaded above is http://

Or they'll find nothing, if my topic is deleted.

Don't panic Rado, I wasn't suggesting deletion :). You are Bulgarian, Capta (@CptCharis ) is Greek ... I don't even know what a meme is, but I gather it is a picture with a funny caption on it.

I was actually thinking of making both Threads "stickies" at General, that is, stuck to the top of the page, and simply putting "Funny" at the beginning of them, and then Members could add to them as they like, to give us all a laugh?

"Humour" and "humor" are differences between UK English and American English, so that would not do.

What do all of you think?

Not on my browser (Firefox)

But if it's that much of a problem,

Hi Jas, and thanks for the input.

Only reason I have brought it up is from this Thread we had a few weeks ago

https://www.linux.org/threads/site-not-secure.22383/

... where Stan (@atanere ) was involved.

I have to go out for a bit, but when I return, I will move Posts #6 down to here, to that Thread, and give @rado84 back his Thread, without muddying the waters further, and spoiling his efforts :D:D

Cheers all

Or you could merge both topics into a new one with whatever title you want and then stick the new one at General. If you include the word "meme" in the title, it would be easier for anyone to find it.

@Vrai , nice ones but I think you pressed Ctrl+V too many times... :p
It was that dang 'Full Screen' button!
I debated with myself on fixing it - and decided 'Nah', I'll just make it worse ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I'll try to do better next time :)

I like the notion of posting all memes over http. That way the 'spymasters' can get a good laugh too!

@wizardfromoz ""not on your browser".....
Interesting.
After reading your post re taking rado's post down because the "padlock" showed an insecure image etc
...I deleted my own post (which I have since reposted) because I could see on the image itself that it was from a http source (didnt give a though to the fact that i had used imgur !!)

anyhow...the 'insecure' icon on the padlock disappeared, so I assumed that I was indeed the culprit. Then I read jas's post...scratched the grey matter...opened the https add on and added a rule for linux.org
reposted the joke/thingie....and there is no insecure warning present

go figure

messy ....yet interesting

I also note that on https everywhere's "atlas'.....linux.org is not listed (Are you a website operator? Click on a letter or search below to see domain names of sites (beginning with that letter) that HTTPS Everywhere rules affect.)

messier......interest is waning.

Name for an area where all sorts of crap goes....generally of a humourous nature....

The Funny Spot....nothing serious here folks...All good fun (and clean...sorta)

There is merit in that, friend Rado :)

I can't give dual ownership in the merged Thread to both of you, so here is what I will do.

Capta's Thread has been around for 13 months, so I will give ownership to him, but include a Moderator's note that the two have been merged, including @rado84 's contributions currently.

I will first fillet off the security concerns material and add it to that of @fixit7 's Thread in Forum Assistance.

Once I merge the humourous material, I will give it a Subject Title such as "Linux Memes and Funnies", and make a Sticky of it at General LInux. Then it doesn't disappear off to eg page 7, 17, or 27 and Members can contribute as they choose.

Thanks for the input, all

LOL, I'm not Bill Gates and I don't care about ownership, so it really doesn't matter to me who the topic owner will be - we're all FOSS here, FFS! :D
