Knoppix live USB lag

I installed Knoppix 8.6 to a 32 gb pendrive, with 10gb overlay partition, using the flash-knoppix command, on Knoppix 8.1 which I run from a pendrive.
The iso image of Knoppix 8.6 was on the HD. The laptop has 4gb RAM, intel core i3 proc.

The problems when using 8.6 are: 1. In the boot options 8.6 can boot from only USB-HDD and not USB-EFI. Is this because 32gb drives are not detected as pendrives? I ask because the boot process is slower than 8.1.
2. Many applications temporarily freeze, eg. I open firefox, the window outline opens and stays inactive for a few minutes before becoming active. This happens with many apps. Meanwhile the light on pendrive is flashing.

Are there any fixes to make Knoppix 8.6 run faster, without lags?

the machine your booting the knoppix usb from, i'm guessing its 32 bit ? On older 32bit systems, when the 32bit kernel is autoselected (linux instead of linux64), the boot process stalls when accessing the compressed loopback device.
try Limiting memory by boot option knoppix mem=800M

At the boot splash screen appearing on choosing USB-HDD from the boot menu , I press Enter, and it's loading linux64. It's a Lenovo G510, so 64bit? Also the lag is very pronounced now, taking 5+ minutes to start. Pressing the start button takes fully 1-2 minutes for any action.

SInce pendrive-to-pendrive isn't working properly, I'd suggest using harddrive-to-pendrive to create your Knoppix 8.6 USB. If running Linux, the dd command works very well. If running Windows, I'd try Unetbootin or balenaEtcher.

Cheers
