I'm having trouble installing arch linux in uefi mode

Can you boot from a live USB? Typically the bigger distros will auto-detect if you are legacy BIOS or EFI.
I just tried out ubuntu and it did say i'm on uefi but it didn't show a unique splash screen, it couldn't find any uefi firmware settings and it failed to install (grub-install: error: failed to register the EFI boot entry: Input/Output error.)

I looked that laptop up on the web and YouTube. It's from around 2012. From what I've seen it has some old UEFI implementation from before the modernized ones you have now, so the support probably isn't really good as seen from the results you have gotten. I also saw that the laptop does have a legacy option in the bios, just turn that on and use that instead.

@secureuser please start a new thread, rather than hijack this one.

TIA
