There are many tools available that make Linux a great system for productivity. Not only will most of these applications help users with various tasks, but some of these are just interesting to have.
Clipit
Clipit is a useful tool that makes it possible to hold multiple items on the clipboard. This allows users to get more done since more data can be stored on the clipboard. Also, if the user later realizes that data they previously copied is needed again, the data can still be accessed. Clipit is GTK-based and exists as a little icon on the desktop environment's system tray. Also, Clipit can be opened as a window that provides access to the held data.

Tomboy
Tomboy is a GTK-based app that usually has an icon in the desktop environment's system tray. Users can easily jot down little notes, lists, and reminders. Users can organize notes into categories/groups.

Guake
Guake is a drop-down terminal. This means that users can press a button (usually "F12") and the terminal will appear on the screen. This provides a fast and easy way to access a terminal. Users can use the options/settings in Guake to make the default shell Bash, Dash, Python, Perl, Ruby, or any other program with a shell-like interface. Developers can use this to test small snippets of code.

Screenlets
Screenlets is a widget engine that comes with a collection of desktop widgets/applets. These widgets are little programs that can be placed on the desktop like icons. Screenlets is similar to Apple's Dashboard, Google's Gadgets (which Screenlets now supports), or Microsoft's Gadgets (which were discontinued - http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/gadgets). An alternative to Screenlets is gDesklets.
