Hello everyone,

I'm experiencing a strange issue on my system and would appreciate some help. Recently, I've noticed that Google Chrome is constantly lagging and performing very poorly, especially when browsing or opening multiple tabs.

The odd thing is that Firefox works perfectly, with no lag or stuttering, even during heavy usage. This makes me think the problem isn't with my RAM, as both browsers should behave similarly if that were the case.

My setup is as follows:

  • Operating System: Ubuntu 24.04 LTS
  • Desktop Environment: KDE Plasma
  • Problematic Browser: Google Chrome
I've already tried the following steps without success:

  1. Clearing the Chrome cache.
  2. Disabling all extensions.
  3. Restarting the system.

Are you logging into Chrome or running it anonymously?

Do you have any way of watching your network traffic when you launch it?

I am using both, and the freezing still remains. I put google-chrome-stable --disable-gpu inside /usr/share/applications/google-chrome.desktop.

I am testing this on all the company's machines. If I get any feedback, I will report it here.

There is a simple message there for you....use a Firefox based browser, not chrome

I use Waterfox

That is not what Condobloke said.

English Please.

I would like to use Firefox, but due to company policy, everyone must use Google Chrome by default. The system I set up is based on Ubuntu 24.04, from which I removed GNOME and installed KDE Plasma. However, whenever I open the browser with a few tabs, the system freezes. I disabled hardware acceleration as advised, which resulted in a slight improvement, but the system still continues to lag and freeze.
