Can't Load Puppy On Windows 8.1?

I am really really new to Linux, so I was looking for a good distro to get my feet wet. Read up on Puppy, yup looked good because my other 'puter is XP with 624 mb of ram, yeah I know, real power house, there. Got usb stick, ready to go live and Puppy only goes to Window 7? Please advise, now I am really confused! Thank-you!
 


Um. You mention Windows 8.1 in the title but XP and 7 in the description?

What exactly are you trying to do?
 
Have two computers, want to try Puppy Live on the 8.1. then eventually put Puppy on the XP. Sorry about that! The 7 comes into play because when I read the fine print, to go live to try out Puppy, it stopped at Windows 7. Please excuse me, but my brain is Linux saturated and I am all over because there are just too many choices.

Do you mean install Puppy on the XP computer and delete XP?

If you are using a USB-drive, once Puppy is installed on the USB-drive, boot off of the drive when in the BIOS.
 
No, I do not want to delete XP, yet. Let me try to explain what I would like to do. I would like to try Puppy Live on 8.1 Windows computer to get the feel of the o/s. Right now, I don't want to mess too much with the XP because of what is on the system and is still needed. The 8.1 Win computer, I can mess with to my heart's content nothing on it of importance, including Windows :). When I went to, there are two sites, to start the download on the usb stick, Windows only went up to 7, hence my question, Am I able to try Puppy Live on a Win 8.1 computer? I do apologize for all the confusion, should not ask questions past one's bedtime.

Yes, Puppy Linux should still be able to run on the same hardware. Just boot off of the USB-drive and Puppy Linux should work.
 
If the USB doesn't boot on your Windows 8.1 computer, you may need to go into your BIOS setup and disable UEFI and Secure Boot.
 
Thank-you, atanere, I did read about that possible issue.Unfortunately, or fortunately, I got side tracked, again, this time reading about Fatdog64. I am quickly coming to the conclusion that the hardest thing about Linux is choosing which one to try!

Dude...LiLi USB Live creator will let you virtualize is off your USB Thumb drive or USB Harddrive. Go here---> linux live usb d o t c o m (URL) dude!!
 
Thanks Dr Pooh, I got both Pendrive and Lili downloaded.

But I have to be the dumb dumb dumb bunny on this, How do I download Fatdog 64 so that I can make the boot Usb? I know, as my son would say, it is past my bedtime, and that is why I can not see this, but any direction would be greatly appreciated!
 
Thank-you ever so much, ryanvade! Please bear with me, I am quite new at this and get lost in my bookmarks. But I don't mind having visions of distros dancing in my brain, I just need to organize them better.
