Hello @RK33DV
Welcome to the forum.
We need a bit more info on your Distro and machine. Which distro are you trying to add to the list? What is already there?
Have you installed the Distro in question to the USB?

current distro: broken install of ubuntu. wifi, ethernet, bt etc. doesn't work

distro on usb: puppy linux fossa pup 64(propably, this was the only rescue usb i found and it had no label)

machine: late 2014 mac mini 8gb ram upgraded to a 512gb ssd.

no. i didnt install it on the usb i just flashed it

Ok Puppy many not support efi booting.
You can fix the grub boot loader by running the live ubuntu session From the install disc.
By following these instructions. Is this a dual boot machine?
option #1 use the live session to backup any important data you may have on your HD. And reinstall ubuntu.
Option # 2 re-install grub boot loader. This page should be of help.
If your just trying to boot a puppy linux live session then you will need to change your bois setting to allow usb to be first boot.
