Booting From USB with GRUB 1.99Ubuntu3.14

I installed ubuntu on a macbook pro 2008 and now it only boots into the grub command line.

I want to install kali linux on the machine but first I need to get it to boot for the usb.

grub> ls
(hd0) (hd0,msdos1) (hd1) (hd1,gpt3) (hd1,gpt2) (hd1,gpt1) (cd0)
grub> set root=(hd0,msdos1)
grub> chainloader +1
error: invalid EFI file path
grub> chainloader /[tab]
possible files are:
/ / .disk/ autorun.inf dists/ firmware/ g2ldr g2ldr.mbr install/ isolinux/ live/ md5sum.txt pool/ setup.exe tools/ win32-loader.ini

^^ this what I have tried to no success. Any help? When I try to enter the EFI "bios" for the mac I just get a white screen with a mouse which I can move around but thats it. If you need more I will give you all that you need.

I have good news for those who are stuck at the grub menu. It turns out that you can drop a grub.conffile alongside the boot.iso image, and grub will automatically load it.

Using this bit of information and after some experimenting, I have been able to successfully boot Kali Linux. This is the working grub.conf file I've used:
