here's me, and i'm very new to linux
asus netbook 1015pn-pu17
BT5r1 is installed and working from USB stick.
*problem: need to do update, synaptic, etc, but i can't get BT to see my wireless, which is my only source of connection. ifconfig shows eth0 and lo but no wlan0. assume it's a driver issue, but don't know how to install alternate driver w/o internet, or which driver to install when i do figure out how to install new driver offline. (unless there's another workaround i don't know about.)

below are outputs from ifconfig, airdriver-ng loaded/installed/kernel, and iwconfig.

edit: dont know if this matters, but i created boot USB stick with unetbootin, stick is 16GB, and i allocated maximum persistent memory (9999MB). have tested and confirmed that changes to files do indeed stick.

According to the Archlinux Wiki:
Wireless
Since linux kernel version 2.6.37, the needed module for BCM4313 is natively included in it. If you by any chance you a kernel equal or older than 2.6.36, then you will need compat-wireless-brcm80211.

For kernel 3.0 or higher, wireless card seems to be blocked by other wrong module (I notice a module called 'bcma-pci-bridge' being loaded -- josephgbr). To solve this issue, you have to blacklist the kernel module {{Ic|bcma}. In the next reboot, the wireless card should be working.

This blog, tells you "How to enable broadcom wireless BCM4311 card on Linux Mint 11", Linux Mint being Derived from Ubuntu the same as Backtrack.

As I have said elsewhere in this forum , if your computer is offline you can download apps and dependencies on a second computer by using e.g. Keryx Project, Sushi-Huh?, APTonCD or Synaptic...
