    Let me add here another program I found. kanata https://github.com/jtroo/kanata I haven't tested it yet, but It also appears to be able to do multi-tap / hold mapping and re-mapping of buttons and macros.

    Thanks everyone! Thank you @Condobloke , Kmonad is exactly what I was looking for. It has multi-tap/hold functionality and multiple keyboard mapping. I have quite some reading to do now, but hey... live to learn. Cheers!

    Let me clarify it eve more. In autohotkey, I use a library called TapHoldManager through which you can hold a key, press once, twice, three-times etc and trigger different actions every time. I can't figure out a way to do this with autokey.

    Thanks for the link, but it doesn't really answer my question. Is there a way to to do the action I described in autokey? Or xdotool? I don't know how to make them react to holding and releasing keyboard buttons and acting accordingly.
