Order a refurbishished/used phone from eBay. Make sure it is unlocked.
The same model I just recently posted about is availabe on eBay for like $110.
Pick the carrier you want and get a SIM card for it. You can even do pre-paid and they'll give you a SIM card.
The only reason I went with buying it direct was to be absolutely sure of support. One on eBay will say used but be new. They just came out in January.
The one I went with is the Samsung A16 5G. You should have some cheap versions in your country's eBay.
I wanted to get her a refurb iPhone, but she said she only wanted a cheap one so we were looking at a cheap android for her, as she is unlikely ever to go online with it,and it has a 5.8 inch screen so she can see it
I Understand, mate! before I retired, I had a lady from HQ bugging me daily for a cell phone number. I have a cheap flip phone ($6 per month) but I only turn it on a couple times a month, to text my wife when either of us is at a Doctor appointment. I certainly did not want a continuous stream of corporate drivel on it, so I ignored her for a while. She clearly did not like an empty spot in her data! Then the emails started coming 3 or 4 times a day. This woman was relentless!! I finally got fed up with the spam, and replied "the reason that you don't have a cell phone number on file for me is that, unlike most people, I don't have one of those infernal devices glued to my ear!!!" Funny how the emails just stopped cold turkey. Never heard another word from her. They simply cannot imagine someone not treasuring a smart phone, like it is a part of you.
@VP9KS that's the only reason we need one, I have been seriously ill[ not that anyone could notice] for about 18 months now, and the wife is ...well shall we say a tad older than me and is having eye surgery as well as health problems so in case of emergencies, plus we can take it when we go on holiday, again as a just in case, but we will only give the number it to family and friends, and it will save nicking granddaughters when we are away.[she always insists we take her spare ]
