Chrome silently downloading over 4GB of data

I'm surprised this hasn't been posted here yet. gHacks released an article yesterday detailing how Google Chrome is downloading over 4 GB of data to users' devices. It has something to do with AI it looks like.

What else to expect from google?

From another perspective, maybe google users deserve google treating them like brainless herd, IDK what has to happen before some people figure they're google's slaves.

Yeah, but the question is (at least for me) does this apply to Chromium? I haven't found any such file (yet).

Very unlikely, Chromium is used by many browser vendors that have nothing to do with google or chrome, like MS Edge and Yandex.
