As some of you have seen from previous thread, (Get This off My Chest), I've been going through other threads to find "Clear" procedure to help me get my printer hooked up. As previously stated, had to reformat HD to fix DNS issue all due to a %#!*#! VPN/DNS problem. So I'm starting from scratch..........again.
I have a Canon Pixma TR-4722 printer. I saw the sample that says "cups/blah, blah, blah...blah blah".
I don't understand what to enter in that.
Is there a simple way to get this machine to recognize my printer?

No. The 210 quit working sometime ago. When I initially changed over to Cinnamon almost 2 years ago, the 210 died about same time. It was a 20 year old printer. Think it had something to do with updates ran out. So the dude at another tech place sold me the new printer which is the Pixma TR-4722. I will go though your links while I have some ice cream in a waffle cone at same time. Thanks.

Okay, stupid me. I didn't have printer on at first, but do now. And it see's the "new printer" in the localhost box. But it asks if I want to do a test print, I click OK, but get nothing. I've done this 3 times and on the print icon at bottom it has the printer listed at "Canon TR4700 series, Canon 4700 series-2, and Canon 4700 series-USB". Not sure what is going on here. I guess its the setup box, but it's asking me to enter URI. I don't know what to enter. And sorry, that was last waffle cone.

I am a bit lost when it comes to printers.....but, type .. printers .. into the menu......right click on your printer if it is shown there, and make sure 'enabled' and shared are both selected. You may also be able to select it as Default?

the cups test page after install never worked for me. I go into cups select printer and then in the drop down box there is a test page that usually works. Stop thinking like you are in windoze. Plug in the printer. let linux do it's thing and then try it. it sounds like it is there just try it out. I use fedora and plugged in a canon tr8620a and it just picked up and went without issue.

S U C C E S S !!!!

IT WORKS!!!!
the problem was there are 2 printers in the localhost box. I right clicked on that and both those boxes were checked. That only said "Canon 4700 Series". The other had Canon 4700 series USB. I right clicked on that and the boxes were NOT checked. So when the print box came up, in the destination window on top, it has 2 4700 series listed, and 2 4700 series HP printers listed. Don't understand how those got there. Then I highlighted the one that had USB, and WHALA, It Printed!. And that's how it's connected...USB. So all I have to do is find out how to delete the other listings, and I can print to my hearts content. One problem down, abut 3 or 4 more to go. Thank you.

I would be careful deleting the other listings. If they are not causing any harm etc etc.....leave them alone, perhaps ?

@Snort McDork , I would take a Timeshift snapshot before deleting any further printer options.

When you are sure this is solved, you can mark it as such by going to your first post, and do as follows

Near bottom left of the post click Edit - (No Prefix) - Solved

That sounds like a wonderful idea. Why didn't I think of that?

Well, I don't think I'm going to delete anything at the moment.
I was up at my local community college IT Dept. yesterday and the dude in charge was some what helpful. He didn't turn me away, or tell me something discouraging.
He allowed me to write a note for any student who knows Linux, and post it on the bulletin board in the office lobby. Hopefully someone will see it before the term ends. Hopefully I can get someone up here, and go through this thing tell me, and give me some better direction. I think he said there are 6 weeks left before they have final exams. We'll just have to hope for best in this short period of time.
