I have alsa/pulseaudio/pipewire successfully installed and can listen to numerous internet audio streams. One class of stream of interest to me are WebSDR sites (SDR = software defined radio, a method for listening to shortwave radio over the internet). One shortwave signal of interest is FT8-encoded signals (say at 14.074 MHz on the 20 meter band). I would need WSJT-X software to decode these FT8 signals. However, WSJT-X expects to send and receive signals to and from a sound card.

I had successfully done this several years ago (probably before the advent of pulseaudio/pipewire). I remember the key was to download a special program to serve as the virtual audio cable. Unfortunately I did not keep notes on details.

Some sites mention pavucontrol. I’ve tried that, but it is not obvious how this should work.

Any advice?
